A Pair of Sèvres Porcelain Dishes given by Louis XV to the Duc de Nivernais, 1762
With bleu lapis vermiculé ground and flowers painted by J. F. Michaud. From a service given by Louis XV on 28th January 1763 to the Duc de Nivernais who had been Ambassador to England at the end of the Seven Years War and had successfully negotiated peace between England and France. A large group of pieces from this service is in the British Royal Collection.
Very similarly decorated to the Sèvres dinner service given by Louis XV to the Duke & Duchess of Bedford in 1763, now at Woburn Abbey.
