A Pair of Sèvres Wine Glass Coolers made for Madame du Barry, 1771
This pair of soft-paste porcelain seau à verre échancré are painted with urns and trails of flowers, gilt and blue ovolo band borders and entwined floral script and gilt initials DB. From a dinner service made for Madame du Barry, the mistress of King Lous XV of France.
Date-letter S for 1771; one with painter’s mark of three dots for Jean-Baptiste Tandart (active at Sèvres 1754-1800), the second example with a hole pierced where the marks may have been originally.
