A Rare Sèvres Plate from the Catherine II Service, 1778

Bleu céleste ground colour painted with imitation cameos, flowers and decorated with lavish gilding.

From the most costly service made at Sèvres in the 18th Century for Catherine II of Russia, most of which is still in The State Heritage Museum, St. Petersburg. This plate comes from a group of Catherine the Great’s Service sold at Christie’s in London in 1892.
