A Sceaux Porcelain Potpourri Bowl & Cover, circa 1750-60

Similar larger examples of this form are in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and in The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles (purchased from Adrian Sassoon in 2000). For various reasons these pieces are thought to have been made at the Sceaux porcelain factory of Jacques Chapelle. They were in the recent past attributed to the St. Cloud porcelain factory.

This covered bowl has a lid which is pierced so the scent of potpourri inside can mix into the room.
