A French 18th Century Hard-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Cup and Saucer, 1773

A hard-paste Sèvres Cup and Saucer gobelet Litron and soucoupe of the second size with an unusual gold ground. Crowned interlaced Ls, date-letter U for 1773, painter’s mark a heraldic label for André-Vincent Vielliard.

At the start of regular hard-paste production at Sèvres around 1773, a great effort was made to produce new, original designs, and many of the painters tried their hand at the material, including here Vielliard, with a gold ground and an unusual variant on his regular garden scenes.
