A Sèvres Cup & Saucer, 1782

This gobelet litron et soucoupe of the 3rd size is decorated with a white ground and gilt friezes with scrolls enclosing flower trails and heart-shaped medallions with figures.  Factory marks in gold are under crowns for hard-paste; enclosing the date-letters ee for 1782;  painter’s mark LB for Jean-Nicolas Le Bel  and the gilder’s mark HP for Henri-Martin Prévost.

On 2nd March 1782 Le Bel is recorded as having painted six gobelets Litrons of the third size with ‘frize riche, haut et bas’ for which he was paid 24 livres each.
