A Sèvres Plate from the Vandernyver Service, 1792

This soft-paste Sèvres porcelain plate (assiette) has illegible date letters and the painters mark of Pierre-Jean-Baptiste Vandé (active 1779-1800 and 1802-24).

It comes from a Sèvres dinner service sold to the Dutch banker Jean-Baptiste Vandernyver on 29th November 1792.  The service originally contained 92 plates and much of it was sold at Christie’s in London in 1897.  There are pieces from this service in the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg.
