A Sèvres Soft-Paste Porcelain Coffee Pot with Lid, 1769

This charming cafetière is marked with the factory mark, the date letter Q for 1769 and the painter’s mark of three dots for Jean-Baptiste Tandart.

This shape has in the past been thought to be a warm milk jug, but in 2007 it was shown to be described at Sèvres in the 18th century as a coffee pot.

Provenance : A family of bankers from Amsterdam who settled in Switzerland in the 19th century and from the family’s collection in that home until recently.
