A Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Broth Bowl, Cover & Stand, 1789

This is a lidded bowl intended to serve a warm broth.  The shape is an écuelle ronde tournée with unusual decoration in toned gilding.

The decorator’s mark for André-Vincent Vielliard (active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1752-90) can be found on each piece.

This piece can be identified in the massive Sèvres porcelain collection of J. H. Fitzhenry which was sold at auction in Paris in 1909.
