A Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Tea Service, 1780

This déjeuner soucoupe à pied depicts flowers on a green ground. This tea service has interlaced Ls, date-letter CC for 1780, painter’s mark P7 for Jean-Jacques Pierre, known as Pierre jeune (active between 1763-1800) and gilder’s mark for Michel-Barnabé Chauvaux (active between 1752-1788)

In 1780 Pierre is recorded in the artists’ ledgers as decorating two tea services with soucoupe à pied trays: the first had a bleu céleste ground, and the second a green ground; the flower decoration is described as “différents groupes dans les petits cartels“.
