A Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Tray, 1760

This square tray – a plateau tiroir – has a trophy painted in the well, in natural colours.  On the edge, the rim is gilded and painted with a garland of bleu camaieu (monochrome blue) flowers.

This tray has the factory marks enclosing the date letter G for 1760 and an anchor for the painter Charles Buteux who specialised in trophies such as this.
