A Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Tureen, Cover and Stand, 1780, given by Louis XVI to Prince Henry of Prussia in 1784

With the factory mark, the date letters CC for 1780, painters mark cp for Antoine-Joseph Chappuis (active at Sèvres 1761-87);  gilder’s mark LG for Etienne–Henry Le Guay l’aîné (active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1748-49, 1751-97).

This lavishly-decorated circular tureen, cover and stand (pot à oille et plateau) made in 1780 is from a service associated with the Comte d’Artois completed in 1782.  It was not sold in 1782 but was actually purchased by Louis XVI and given to Prince Henry of Prussia in 1784.
