A St. Cloud Sculpture of A Hermit inside a Tree, circa 1730-40

Of soft-paste porcelain, unmarked. One other example of this model is known, sold by Adrian Sassoon in 2004.

The factory probably based the figure on an oriental porcelain piece – see Ghenete Zelleke, A Singular Saint-Cloud Figure, The French Porcelain Society Journal, Vol. I, 2003.

From the celebrated collection formed by Kenneth Galliers-Pratt from the 1930s to the 1960s.
