This lidded pot à) sucre Hébert has a deep dark blue (bleu lapis) ground and very thick caillouté gilding. It is has the date letter H for 1760 and the crescent mark of the best bird painter at Sèvres, Louis-Denis Armand l’aîné.
In the early 20th century this tray was sold from the important Chappey collection in Paris, along with its matching tray (3879) and tea pot (3877) and two cups and saucers. Each piece was painted by Armand.
