A Very Rare ‘Jeweled’ Sèvres Porcelain Cup & Saucer (Goblet Litron et Soucoupe), 1780

Soft-paste porcelain with bleu nouveau ground and stamped gold foils with enamel drops imitating jewels.

In the 1780s the Sèvres factory made a variety of vases and cups and saucers with this ‘jeweled’ decoration in various patterns, often on a dark blue ground like this. Such cups were purchased as single collector’s items rather than for use.
