An Oval Sèvres Basin with bleu céleste ground, 1759

This shape of bowl would have been made with a matching water jug.

Interlaced Ls, date-letter F for 1759 marked in the manner of the flower painter Pierre-Louis-Philippe Armand jeune.

The Armand brothers were the Sèvres factory’s highest paid bird and flower painters. Like his brother, Armand jeune used a specific personal mark. His style of flower painting is precise, elaborate and brightly coloured. Although there is no documentation for this, Armand jeune regularly painted the flowers which appear on his brother’s bird compositions.
