Wine Glass Cooler with Drapery Seau à Verre à Draperie, circa 1780-82

Of hard-paste porcelain with an unusual red ground colour. The moulded drapery panels are gilded with an intricate pattern reminiscent of embroidery of the period. No other piece like this is known to exist, but from the factory’s archives we know that the Prince de Nassau bought two pieces which may have been of this shape in March 1782.

Factory mark with the crown for hard paste, LG for the gilder Etienne-Henry Le Guay. Circa 1780-82.
