Koji Hatakeyama b. 1956, Japan

  • Overview
"Bronze casting is about pouring molten metal into a mould, but it is also me pouring in my own consciousness.  My consciousness mingles with the bronze, and something emerges as a result."

"Art is a word that occasionally passes through my mind
While problematic as a term, it rings with echoes of the sublime
When I come face to face with the inner workings of my mind
When vaguely perceived images begin to sharpen into focus
Something impels my hands to move
And the word art mysteriously fades into the distance
Without knowing why, and secretly keeping the word closely next to me
I have always tried to be true to myself"
