Kevin Grey
“For twenty-five years I worked within the luxury automotive industry, hand-making bespoke pieces for Rolls Royce, Bentley and the Morgan Motor Company. My accumulated knowledge of traditional skills passed on through the trade, coupled with new technologies and production processes, has provided a unique and original approach to making that extends beyond and complements the traditions of silversmithing.
I create unique pieces that use, almost exclusively, TIG welding techniques to join individually hand formed pieces of silver. The mastery of the welding technique allows me to achieve the precision, scale and dramatic impact of the work; however, technique is not my sole concern. The starting point for each piece is an emotional response: a desire to express a moment or set of ideas in physical form. These can be as varied as a scientific concept, or lived experience of historical events.”
