Depicting Saint Marguerite of Antioch on a Dragon in Paradise. This elaborate devotional scene is exceptionally elaborate and in very fine condition indeed. The saint, who escaped from the Devil disguised as the Dragon stands in an elaborate setting - she, the Dragon and the basin on which they are placed are all made of 'verre filé de Nevers' glass, as are the small vases, the tall posts and the putti set on those posts. There is a mirrored base imitating water and small shells forming a grotto. Painted paper lines the ceiling of the box.
The Corning Glass Museum acquired one of these boxed scenes in 2002. Another, likewise of a different subject, can be seen on display in the Toledo Museum of Art, USA. Otherwise these are rarely seen outside French collections.
