Literature

This open flower vase shape is known in only very few examples for instance in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, The Musée Nationale de Sèvres and in the Toledo Museum of Art, Ohio – all of which have no ground colour. This one is decorated with the bleu céleste ground colour and is painted in panels to the front with trails of flowers – the piece is marked by a flower painter active at this date, but his name is not identified. The rear is decorated with a bouquet of gilding over the ground colour and can be seen in this detail image. Some of the gilding on the handles has been refreshed in the 19th century – detail image.

From the celebrated Hillingdon Collection formed in the late 19th century.

Private Collection, 2005
