Painted by Charles-Nicholas Dodin with a scene on the cup of a Music Lesson taken from an engraving of a painting by C. van Loo. The painting had been created as an over-door for Madame de Pompadour’s salon de compagnie at the Château de Bellevue in 1753. With the factory mark enclosing the date letters AA for 1778, painter’s mark k for Dodin and gilder’s mark # for M-B Chauveaux.Sold to The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Palace of the Legion of Honor Museum, who also own the original overdoor painting by van Loo on which the main scene was based, 2009.
