Literature

The painted decoration on this piece is quirky and upon handling the piece the marks underneath reveal that it was painted by one of the finest flower painter’s at the Sèvres factory in the 18th century. This model of hot broth bowl, the écuelle ronde tournée & plateau ovale has unusual border patterns and trails of flowers in natural colours.

The marks formality and dots at junctions reveal they painter was Pierre-Louis-Philippe Armand Jeune, the highest-paid flower painter at the Sèvres factory in the 18th century. His older brother was the highest-paid bird painter at Sèvres.

Private Collection, UK, 2017
