Literature

These soft-paste porcelain salières doubles have the factory marks and painter’s mark for M.-G. Commelin. They clearly come from the dinner service purchased by the Swedish Count Carl Sparre (1723-91). After Sparre’s death it was purchased by King Gustav III of Sweden for his famous pavilion in the Haga Park, Stockholm.

About half of the service is still in the Swedish Royal Collection and the other large part was taken abroad by King Gustav IV after his abdication in 1809. These are the only known examples of this shape and would come from Gustav IV’s pieces.

Private Collection, USA, 2018
