This plate comes from a large Sèvres dinner service sold to the Dutch banker Jean-Baptiste Vandernyver on 29th November 1792.
The service originally contained 92 plates costing 30 livres as well as another 24 soup plates at the same price.
Much of it was sold at Christie's in London in 1897 including 78 of the flat plates and 22 of the soup plates. There are several pieces from this service in the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg as well as individual plates in both the Musée du Louvre, Paris and in the Musée National de Céramique, Sèvres.
