This unglazed biscuit soft-paste Sèvres porcelain bust of Madame du Barry (1743-93), the official mistress of Louis XV, was created from a model made for the porcelain factory by Augustin Pajou in 1771.
The bust is very rare and examples are in the Musée Lambinet, Versailles; the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris; and an example sold by Adrian Sassoon to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas in 2004.
