Both incised LT, perhaps for the sculptor Letronne (first name unknown, active 1753-57).From a set of eight children modelled from drawings by François Boucher. The first examples found in the sales registers were included in the 1755 delivery of the bleu céleste service to Louis XV. Madame de Pompadour also probably owned the complete set.
By their elaborate detail this pair are clearly early variants of the shape, which was simplified under Falconet’s supervision, probably around 1757.
