Literature

Each marked with the factory mark, date letter C for 1755-56 and the painter’s mark M for Jean-Louis Morin. Painted with putti after engravings by François Boucher. This pair are from a very rare set of four such vases decorated with bleu lapis ground, camaieu rose putti and very intricate rococo gilding. The set was purchased from the Parisian marchand-mercier Lazare Duvaux by the englishman Viscount Bolingbroke in September 1756 for 720 livres.

The other pair from this set are in The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
