The Victoria & Albert Museum, South Kensington, is hosting the GO FOR KOGEI 2025 Symposium “Crafting a New Tradition Through Subversion: Contemporary artists breaking barriers in Japan and beyond”. It will be held on Thursday, 24th July 2025.
This symposium celebrates the vibrant creativity of contemporary artists breaking gender barriers and crossing boundaries in Japanese craft.
Artist, Hitomi Hosono will be speaking at the symposium, along with a range of speakers, including successful women artists, subculture and diaspora artists, V&A contributors and other experts on craft.
The symposium aims to critically examine prevailing notions of ‘Japanese craft’ and ‘Japanese tradition’, with a particular focus on women artists and makers who operate outside institutional frameworks.
