The Minneapolis Institute of Art Acquires The British East India Company – Trade & Colonise, 2016, by Robin Best

Acquired by the Minneapolis Institute of Art in 2017, this garniture of five white porcelain vases with Xin Cai painting was made by the artist in Jingdezhen, China.

The British East India Company tells the story of the cultural interrelationship between India, China, Australia and Britain and its arch-rival France in the sixteenth century.  The hand-painted images include Sir Walter Drake’s ship The Golden Hind, motifs of Turkish origin, Elizabeth I’s seals and the emblem of the British East India Company.
