A Very Fine and Rare Vincennes Ewer & Basin, 1753-54

This broc Roussel et jatte à feuille d’eau bears the date letter A for 1753-54, the first year of commercial production of the turquoise-blue (bleu céleste) ground colour.  Such sets very often have been separated over time, so it is a rare to find these pieces of such early date still together.

During the latter half of the 20th century this set was in the collection of Robert Lehman, New York, a major collector and benefactor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Height of Ewer 19.0 cm
Diameter of Basin 22.5 cm
