Liam Fleming’s sculptural works of art are characterised by a distinctive geometric purity, embodying a sense of restraint and refinement. This aligns his artistic practice with the transcendental qualities of minimalism. Following years of production glassblowing and training, Fleming finds redeeming qualities in his practice through the process of letting go. He brilliantly performs and sublimates his technical approach in the service of a vision that animates the essential enigma of life itself.
Fleming has continued an intense investigation into form and colour through glassblowing, coldworking and kiln-forming. Simple mould-making is employed to create rectangular blown forms. Extensive surface working processes transform the high polish surface to a subtle sheen, accentuating the ultimate movement of the glass. The works are subsequently set in a kiln to fire polish. An uncontrolled process that makes fluid the rigid geometry of the prism, granting the material agency as it transitions to its final form.
