Kazuhiro Toyama

“Metal is considered to be a mineral or inorganic compound and is one of the elements of the earth. I am fascinated by the possibilities of manipulating metal and in particular its melting properties. Through research I have been able to exploit the various melting points of alloys and compounds to create layers of textured metals applied by thermal spraying technology to a stainless steel form.
Although an industrial technique, I have developed my own process of applying metal ingots to a steel frame with the use of an acetylene burner and a plasma-cutting machine. The resulting new forms attempt to capture the changing elements of the earth. As the sea evaporates into the atmosphere and the body returns to the soil, transformation occurs to every matter on earth.”
