More about After Arcimboldo II, 2019

This porcelain figure directly quotes Giuseppe Archimboldo’s exuberant painting of 'Spring' (1573), a figure constructed from flowers, and at the same time draws on the tradition of the exquisitely modelled sculptures of Meissen. The figure bursts into bloom and suggests a moment of change, which is full of potential, the detail of the face can just about be seen below the surface. The figure is seductive, yet it is also a reminder that nothing lasts forever.
