A Mounted Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Vase, circa 1765
This green Sèvres porcelain vase was designed and made with the intention of being mounted in Paris with the gilt-bronze mounts and lid. Porcelains with monochrome colours such as this were made at the Sèvres factory from about 1763 for mounting rather than to be sold as a piece of porcelain. They were commissioned by Parisian marchands-merciers, dealers in luxury objects.
