A Sèvres Portrait Vase made for Louis XVI, 1774-75
This vase à oreilles of the third size is made of hard-paste porcelain and it is a very rare example of a vase decorated with a royal portrait. This vase was commissioned by Louis XVI as a memento of his sister.
The piece was sold to Louis XVI for 480 livres and we can assume that when he left Versailles for ever he took this with him to the Tuilleries in Paris.
