A French 18th Century Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Ice Cooler, 1771
A Sorbet Cooler with lid and liner (seau à glaces) with factory marks in blue with the date-letter S for 1771, painter’s mark y for Edme-François Bouillat (active at Sèvres 1758-1810) or his wife (active at Sèvres 1776-98).
Decorated with bleu Fallot incrusté ground and sprigs of flowers in natural colours. A service of this pattern was sold in 1771 by the Sèvres porcelain factory to the Parisian dealer Simon Poirier and a large group of these are in the collection of the late Marjorie Merriweather Post at Hillwood House, Washington DC.
