A Sèvres Jug with pale turquoise ground, circa 1761-63

A Sèvres Jug (pot à eau ordinarie, fourth size) with pale turquoise (petit verd) ground and painted with flowers.  Painter’s mark for Vincent Taillandier (active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1753-90).

This unusual ground colour was produced in a small number of years and sold from the factory in 1761 to 1763.  This was probably part of a tea service with a matching tray.

From the collection of the British illustrator Linley Sambourne (1844-1910) and by descent to the Messel family at Nymans, Sussex.
