A Sèvres Porcelain Ice Cup made for Louis XVI, 1788

This is a soft-paste porcelain tasse à glace from the ‘Gobelet du Roi’ dinner service with decoration of painted cornflowers (‘guirlandes de barbeaux’).  Made for Louis XVI’s household use at the Château de Versailles from 1783.  There were 96 of this shape and decoration delivered in 1783, plus another 38 were supplied in 1788 and 12 more in 1789.
