A Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Milk Jug circa 1757

A Soft-Paste Sèvres Porcelain Milk Jug circa 1757 (pot à lait à trois pieds, 2nd size) with undecipherable traces of marks under the feet. A lovely example of early green-ground Sèvres porcelain.

The factory’s figure painters mostly copied engravings after François Boucher for scenes with children and putti, keeping the postures but sometimes clothing them, and normally changing their occupation.  In this case, the putto is taken in reverse from L’Esté, one of Louis-Félix de La Rue’s series Les Saisons (Jean-Richard 1269).

From the distinguished collection of the late Dr. Johannes Lafrenz, Munich, Germany.
